The Farm
A Cultural Self Sustainable Community Farm
What we do on our Farm
Traditional Hut
The Traditional Khoi Grass Hut serves as a space for sharing of ceremony, medicine, stories and song.
How you can support
One can book to stay in the Hut, do a medicine consultation, steam or storytelling session.
Food Garden
An educational food-garden demonstrating sustainable natural farming methods for youth and community education.
The food is also used to feed the farm members, wider community and provide for the Khoi Kitchen.
How you can support
We welcome support for developing or garden and seed bank – we need better fencing and fence poles, a wider range of plants/trees and more in depth permaculture training for our youth leaders.
Nursery
The nursery of edible, medicinal and practically useful plants supports community gardening initiatives and is also used for trading and generating funds for the farm.
How you can support
We welcome support for shade netting, seedlings trays, empty pots, heirloom seeds for our seed bank and gardening tools.
Medicine Garden
The Medicine Garden supports the healing services offered by the traditional healer practitioners working through the farm, it is also an educational space for the children and wider community.
The community is served freely though the medicine from this garden.
How you can support
We welcome donations and support for increasing the diversity of plants in our garden, fencing and distillery equipment.
Animals
We keep horses, chickens, ducks, goats, geese, rabbits, non-venomous snakes and guinea pigs on the farm, and are in the process of securing goats.
We offer horse rides to children and tours of the animals on the farm, Their manure is used in our composting system and they are valued for their role as food sources and trading commodities.
How you can support
We welcome donation of livestock, feed and medicines.
Recycling and Upcycling
We work together with the local municipality to do recycling throughout our community. We also recycle and upcycle waste in our building, gardening and craft projects.
One of our upcycling projects is to make horse wagons that can be used for transporting goods and people. These will be available for use, tours and sale from our farm.
How you can support
We welcome donations of scrap metal, used plastic bottles, tins, glass
bottles and other reusable waste for our craft projects.
Khoi Kitchen
The Khoi Kitchen is a project in the process of being launched. It will start off as a weekend market kitchen and develop into a full-time Kitchen serving healthy natural food inspired by our indigenous Khoi Roots and culture, as well as using food that is foraged and gathered in the area.
How you can support
We are looking for support for the infrastructure, tools and equipment needed to launch this kitchen.
